Green Home—Arlington Convention Center - January 2005

Features in the Green Home:

Energy-efficient Construction—this model home featured SIP (structural insulated panel) walls and ceiling in the two-story main completed house and the three unfinished side rooms featured SIP walls, ICF (Insulated Concrete Forms) walls, and Icynene foam insulation sprayed in a 2x4 wall & 2x6 roof.

Sustainable building products like siding made from concrete, manufactured light colored stone (that reflects our hot summer heat) made from ground granite and marble, and various types of flooring made from bamboo, recycled plastic bottles, cork, and corn husks. A lifetime metal roof that reflects our hot summer heat, tankless hot water heater, Solar hot water heater, and no VOC paint.

The home also exhibited proper southerly orientation for maximum energy efficiency and proper overhangs and shading to keep the hot summer sun out and allow the winter passive solar heat in.
