“Our house was inspired by the Eichler series of homes- in particular A. Quincy Jones- with floor-to-ceiling glass, exposed wood beams and public spaces circulating around a courtyard.
It is more of a take on midcentury modernism in a contemporary style. By re-creating a true mid-century we wouldn’t be any different than the big builders putting up these monstrous McMansions, some of which replicate Mediterranean, Cape Cod or Georgian styles, etc. Rather, the influences reflect on the 50’s neighborhood, along with newer building technologies.
We’re trying to prove that green can be obtainable and affordable, and that good design can minimize our footprint on the eart with smaller homes instead of huge mansions.”
